Spencer Dinwiddie hits a game winner as the Nets take down Indiana 106-105
After Saturday night's heart-aching loss to the Raptors in Toronto, the Brooklyn Nets needed something to lift their spirits as they continued their road trip.
It was the same script all over again, Brooklyn failed to capitalise on opportunities throughout the night. Their 8-point lead quickly turned into a 3-point deficit entering the fourth quarter; all signs pointed to another close and disappointing loss, but Spencer Dinwiddie had other plans.
Scoring 11 of his 21 in the fourth, up comes Dinwiddie off the inbound with 9 on the clock. 1-on-1 with the 2017 NBA Rookie of the Year Malcolm Brogdan, Dinwiddie nails the long mid-range jumper to seal the game and the road win for the Nets.
Caris LeVert got the call on Saturday after erupting for a career-high 37 against the Raptors but Dinwiddie got the call last night. The Nets forced a miss from Malcolm Brogdan and handed the struggling Indiana Pacers their sixth straight loss.
Dinwiddie dropped 21 points and 11 assists with six boards which resulted in his seventh double-double this season, tying his career high for double doubles in a season.
Despite it being a tough shooting night for both guards Dinwiddie and LeVert the Nets controlled the tempo for majority of the game before Indiana went on an 11-1 run to close the third.
Once again DeAndre Jordan proved why he is a valuable asset off the bench, finishing with 11 points and 19 rebounds; his seventh double -double off the bench this season. The most by Net off the bench since Jamie Feick’s nine in the 99/00 season. Brooklyn set a season-high for most players in double figures with eight.
As for Kyrie Irving there was no update on his return as head coach Kenny Atkinson said “he’s re-evaluated every day, No Update”. Meanwhile being asked about his new rotation with LeVert, Dinwiddie and a healthy Kyrie he suggested that he could play LeVert at the 3 which is not a bad problem to have.
Up Next for the Nets is the Raptors at home as they look to make amend for Saturday Nights defeat.
