After 60 games since Peyton Manning retired...the Denver Broncos may have just found their franchise quarterback.
Drew Lock is now 2-0 as NFL quarterback with a 38-24 win on the road against DeShaun Watson and the Houston Texans
The Broncos traded up with the Cincinnati Bengals to select the quarterback out of Missouri with the 42nd pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and maybe John Elway got it right this time.
Lock started off hot, as he found fellow rookie tight-end Noah Fant which turned into a 48-yard gain. The young quarterback followed it up with a play action money throw to Andrew Beck to move the chains.
A big issue for the Broncos has been third down conversions and in the red zone, but a 12-yard strike on 3rd and 12 from Lock to Fant for the touchdown gave fans something to shout about.
The second drive of the game the Broncos made big plays once again; with Tim Patrick, Devontae Booker and Jeff Heuerman to finish it for the second score of the game.
One of the biggest complaints in the media and amongst the Mile-High faithful was conservative play calling in the second half. We all knew Denver could get to a hot start, when they were up 14-0 on the road at Minnesota, but 4 blown fourth quarter leads have been the story of the Broncos season so far.
Credit to offensive coordinator Rich Scrangarello, Denver came out the second half aggressive and went back to hitting Noah Fant and Philip Lindsay capped it off with a short run into the end zone putting Denver up 30+ points.
The Texans got on the board with a couple plays from Deshaun and DeAndre Hopkins and the game finished 38-24.
Lock now has the 2nd - best passer rating in the first half by a Broncos QB since 1991. His 157.8 passer rating only trails John Elway's’ perfect rating of 159.3.
He finished with 309 passing yards, touchdowns and one INT.
The next test for Drew Lock and the broncos is an AFC-West division rival game against reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs
